A handy tool for cooking measurements, oven temperatures and food substutions.
Although in most of the world, recipes use the metric system of units (litres, grams, etc.) many countries use different measurements (cups, spoons, etc.) with little consistency from one country to another. There are for instance 4 different types of tablespoons used in recipes. This tool provides an easy and user friendly method to convert between any of these measurements.
Most modern recipe books and internet sites provide cooking temperatures based on Gas Mark, Celsius °C and/or Fahrenheit °F. French recipes may however give oven temperatures in Thermostat, where Thermostat 1 is the French equivalent of Gas Mark 1. German recipes may give oven settings in Stufe. You need to be careful as the oven temperatures for the French Thermostat, UK & Irelands Gas Mark and the German Stufe are not the same. This is where you need a handy tool, like Cooking Aid, which provides an interactive way to look up these temperatures. Please note that the temperature dial is used by rotating it with 2 fingers.
Additionally Cooking Aid includes a list of common food substitutes, for when youre out of an ingredient, or for dietary needs, allergies, or for a more budget-friendly alternative.
